Mar 11, 2015 Here are some tips to keep your Wi-Fi running properly in OS X Yosemite. Image: Apple Updating to a new version of an OS can sometimes present frustrating problems for the end user. Jun 13, 2015 Now that Yosemite has been out for some time, and El Cap has been announced, I was just wondering if anyone has successfully got a usb 802.11ac adapter to work on Yosemite? My 2012 Macbook Air's wireless connection is sucky - worse if I have bluetooth turned on. Was looking for a USB 802.11ac solution.

Is there a source for compatible drivers?Macintosh compatibility with USB WiFi adapters is not as popular as it is for other computer platforms, but there seems to be only a couple of companies that write WiFi drivers, so you might be able to find a WiFi driver that will work with your MacBook Pro. Do a search using the brand of WiFi adapter and then continue to search for 'drivers for brand 'x', model 'x' USB WiFi adapter'. Mac WiFi drivers are offered for the specific operating system, rather than for a particular computer, so, for example, you would need one set of WiFi drivers for a Mac running 10.9 and another set of Mac WiFi drivers if you are running 10.6. We've had good luck with the inexpensive 'Rosewill' brand WiFi adapters sold by NewEgg that offer WiFi drivers for Macs - ours have worked pretty well with older Mac computers than what you are using, including a G4 Powerbook and an even older G3 Pismo. Check to ensure they have drivers for your operating system. (If you can get away with it, you might want to consider using an Ethernet cable with your MacBook Pro to get better bandwidth and greater stability, instead of using WiFi.) Note that the USB WiFi adapters we've used with our Macs get quite hot, so it might be advisable to connect them using a 'USB extension' cable. Some USB WiFi adapters are sold with a USB extension cable connected to a small vertical USB 'stand' to plug in the WiFi adapter as a free-standing unit away from the computer. For a laptop, using an extension USB cable might be a nuisance, but monitor the heat that the USB WiFi adapter puts out, and if it is excessive, think about adding a USB 'extension' cable to connect your USB WiFi adapter.
Most 3rd party mice should work. But be aware that some models do not use Bluetooth, but provide a USB dongle that takes up one of your USB ports. I've used a Logitech 9-button mouse with my iMac and a dongle (since replace with a Magic Trackpad).

NOTE: I found that the newest Apple Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Trackpad 2 need to first be plugged into the Mac via a USB Lightening cable before the Mac will recognize and pair to the mouse or trackpad. Once it is paired, you can disconnect the USB Lightening cable and it works fine. I have a Magic Trackpad 2 working via bluetooth with my Late 2009 iMac.
What you don't get are some features that required extra software, not present in an older OS version.
So of you still have your mouse, you should give that a try. If you have already returned it, then of course look at other choices for mice.

Finally, as I said, I replaced my iMac's mouse with a Magic Trackpad, when the first came out, and I have not looked back. I far prefer the Magic Trackpad over the mouse. And when I added BetterTouchTool to my Mac, it allowed me to customize my gestures far beyond what Apple offered. I've since upgraded to the Magic Trackpad 2, which I use via bluetooth, but it can be operated via a USB Lightening cable too. And since the trackpad does not need to move around, having a cable attached while it is charging is not a problem.
